This Standard primarily specifies the requirements for the packaging to Military Packaging Levels P, N and J of; small and robust, electrical, electronic or electro-mechanical assemblies, and sealed or hermetically sealed electrical indicating instruments.
This includes items noted as; 'Relays, Relay Controllers and Solenoids, Electrical' and 'Precision Instrument, rotating servo-components'; Frame sizes 08 to 23 and 37.5, 50 and 75 mm Synchro units classified as Magslips.
The Primary Packaged Quantities (PPQ) are single items or multiple sets up to and including 2 kg mass. Over 2 kg, a SPIS design should be raised in accordance with Defence Standard 81-41.
This standard covers only those assemblies with a minimum fragility factor of 100 gn
This standard is not applicable to the packaging of electrostatic discharge sensitive devices.
Sealed and hermetically sealed electrical indicating instruments are covered up to and including 100 mm in diameter
