scope:
This standard specifies requirements for wires and cables which are suitable for use where the potential between the conductors, or between a conductor and the equipment structure, or between a conductor and a metal braid surrounding the cable does not exceed 600V rms. where the combination of ambient temperature and temperature rise due to the current, produces a stabilized conductor temperature not exceeding the rated temperature.
These wires and cables are suitable for fixed wiring at temperatures from 135°C maximum down to minus 75°C but are not suitable for severe flexing at temperatures below minus 40°C.
These wires and cables do not support combustion and will withstand contamination by ester based lubricants and by ester based hydraulic fluids.
The variants differing in their conductors and total thickness of insulation (thus in their weight and resistance to abrasion) are available without screen, Tables IA, lB, IF and 1G or with screen and jacket Tables IC to IE as specified.
The thick wall insulated wires are normally available where dimensional replacements for those wires and cables listed in BS 2G 221 are required for wiring without further protection.
The thin wall insulated wires and cables are intended for internal wiring of equipment.
