scope:
This Standard applies to spas, hot tubs, and associated equipment for residential and commercial use that
(a) are intended to be permanently connected to a plumbing system;
(b) are intended for use indoors in nonhazardous locations; and
(c) are connected
(i) permanently to an electrical supply circuit of 250 V and less (i.e., 150 V maximum to ground); or
(ii) to a single source of electrical supply that is
(1) rated not more than 125 V, single phase, and not more than 15 A; and
(2) has a factory-provided supply cord terminating in a moulded attachment plug.
Note: See Clause 4.2.8 for requirements for plug- and cord-connected equipment.
Clauses 1 to 6 apply to spas and hot tubs and Clauses 7 and 8 apply to associated equipment as follows:
(a) Clause 7 - remote packaged units for use with spas and hot tubs; and
(b) Clause 8 - lighting equipment provided as an integral part of a spa or hot tub.
This Standard does not apply to
(a) hydromassage bathtubs covered in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 218.2;
(b) portable hydromassage units;
(c) heated bathtubs;
(d) hydrotherapy bathtubs or units; and
(e) swimming pool heaters
