Introduction

This chapter defines the requirements for the identification and recording of design and modification states of materiel as follows:

Identification of aircraft, including installed and associated equipment, guided weapon systems and certain large electronic systems.

The use of mark or model numbers.

General requirements for the marking of materiel and their packaging.

Effect of design changes on the identification of materiel.

Modification plates.

Y-lists of modifications.

History records of equipment.

Note: Some of the requirements may be waived for small or fragile items.

Requirements for identification under the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) codification system are stated in Chapter 209.
