PURPOSE
This Directive:
Supersedes reference (a).
Assigns responsibilities and authorities to fulfill Department of Defense (DoD) Chief Information Officer (CIO) responsibilities, pursuant to reference (b), for developing, prescribing, and implementing Information Technology (IT), including National Security Systems (NSS), standards that apply throughout the Department of Defense.
Designates, pursuant to reference (c), the Director, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) as the DoD Executive Agent for IT Standards to implement references (b) and (d), as well as DoD Instruction 4630.8 (reference (e)).
APPLICABILITY
This Directive applies to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Military Departments, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities in the Department of Defense (hereafter collectively referred to as the "DoD Components").
