This INTERIM standard provides guidance on the packing of consumable stores where no military packaging level is stipulated and the required storage period is unlikely to be more than one year. Primary Packaged Quantity (PPQ) must be quoted in the contract, warrant or demand.
The following types of item, known colloquially as consumable or commonality items, are covered by this INTERIM Standard. The list is not exhaustive and may be extended to similar ranges of items used in the mechanical or electrical field and manufactured from any material with or without protective finish:
(a) bolts, screws, nuts, washers,- screw thread inserts, pins, rivets, studs, bushes and spacers
(b) wood screws, nails etc
(c) collars
(d) springs, eg helical, compression, torsion, extension and leaf
(e) terminals, lugs, contacts, caps, fuses, knobs etc
(f) cleats, clips, catches, fasteners ana retaining rings
(g) grommets, gaskets, seals
(h) shafts and spindles
(j) plates, eg cover shield, instruction, wiring, modification, identification and label,
