scope:
This guideline deals with the conditioning and biological scrubbing of waste gas flows which are contaminated by gaseous and/or particulate solid and liquid air-polluting substances. In many applications, the focus is placed on the reduction of organic and odour-intensive gases and vapours which are watersoluble and biodegradable at sufficient speed. With organic solvents, the typical concentration range goes as far as about 1000 mg/m3.
The guideline gives an overview over the process-related principles, the design and construction of plants, the process variants and their operation as well as typical application examples.
Typical examples for the application of bioscrubber plants can be found in the food, beverage and tobacco industries, in paint shops and other solvent-processing industries, in foundries, animal carcass disposal, in the feed industry, in cosmetics and detergent fragrance manufacture and in wood products industry.
Reference is made to the specific acts, ordinances and administrative regulations, or otherwise, as well as technical rules, applicable to the construction and operation of the plants in question.
All volumes for gases in this guideline refer to the standard temperature and pressure (273,15 K, 1013 mbar) after deduction of the water vapour content. Special reference is made to exceptions.
