scope:
The guideline VDI 3814 applies to equipment, software and services for automatic control, monitoring, optimisation and operation and for the energy-efficient and reliable operation and management of building services (GA). Building automation is a prerequisite for comprehensive building management.
As the international standard DIN EN ISO 16 484 does not contain all the regional requirements, VDI 3814 takes over the task of defining the requirements for building automation and control systems (BACS) which are standard in Central Europe (exception: requirements for electrical safety). The guideline VDI 3814 Part 1 defines system principles for BACS.
The VDI 3814 series of guidelines supports all those people involved in the planning, procurement, implementation, operation and training of building automation and control systems with help and information. This constantly changing technology is composed of the specialist fields of measuring and control technology (automation), building services, in particular heating technology, air conditioning technology and sanitation engineering, power engineering and communications technology (information technology) and parts of technical configuration (e. g. façade engineering). The developments in information technology have a decisive influence. For this reason, building automation has developed from centralized supervisory technology as an independent construction trade. International standards for BACS underline this development.
This guideline represents an edited version of the guideline published in 2005-05.
