This standard does not apply to household appliances under the German Product Safety Act (ProdSG).
This standard is intended to describe the specified normal operation and maintenance of VAC systems combined with other building services systems while protecting human health and the environment. Specified normal operation must be taken into account in planning.
System operators are given recommendations regarding
• safe,
• specified normal,
• demand-based and
• economically efficient
operation and maintenance of VAC systems. Due consideration is given to:
• legal and normative requirements such as
− occupational safety and health
− safety
− legal duty to maintain safety
− environmental protection
• hygiene
• general performance requirements
This standard specifies the fundamentals of operating and maintaining VAC systems. It describes maintenance and defines terms which, together with those given in DIN EN 13306, are required for an understanding of the interactions.
As per DIN 31051, basic maintenance activities are distinguished into:
• inspection
• preventive maintenance
• repair
• improvement
Items to be considered include:
• company-internal and external requirements
• matching of maintenance goals with business objectives
• suitable maintenance strategies
Downtimes and interruptions of use require preventive as well as remedial actions to be taken in order to preserve a technically and hygienically perfect condition; they are thus covered by the scope of this standard and are described in Section 6.10 and Annex A.
