scope:

This standard describes the state of the art according to the legal definition of the BImSchG § 3 (Federal law of limiting emissions). State of the art according to this law is the up-to-date development of progressive methods, facilities or operations which seems to ensure the practical suitability of a measure to limit emissions. To determine the state of the art, it is necessary to consult particularly comparable methods, installations or modes of operation which have proved successful in daily operation. The standards are applicable to measures on explosion protection in fluid bed spray granulators, fluid bed dryers and fluid bed coaters which are designated as fluid bed units in the following chapters. If fluid bed units are operated according to the designated application, it is possible that there are combustible dust/air mixtures, vapor/air mixtures or hybrid mixtures or that they may occur.

This standard provides information and examples for both the manufacturer and separately, the owner for the procedure for risk assessments and of protective measures. To understand this standard it is recommended that standard VDI 2263 Part 5 have been consulted.

This standard does not include fluid bed incinerators according to TRD 415.
