VDI 2058 BLATT 3

Assessment of noise in the working area with regard to specific operations

active, Most Current
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 August 2014
Status: active
Page Count: 28
ICS Code (Noise with respect to human beings): 13.140
scope:

This standard is intended to assess noise immissions in the working area with regard to specific operations.

For this, activity characteristics, load and stress are assigned to three sound level values as well as typical activities, as an orientation aid in the standard. Irrespective of the scope of the Workplace Ordinance, comparable conclusions can be drawn from this standard for all working areas. This standard is only concerned with audible sound (i.e. sound in the frequency range from 16 Hz to 16 kHz).

The noise immission is evaluated based on the rating level, which shall be determined corresponding to DIN 45645-2. If necessary, further acoustic quantities and influence factors shall be considered.

In individual cases, it can be necessary to analyse and assess the work operations with the relevant loads and strains separately based on the individual situations or particular requirements.

The assessment of work noise putting hearing at risk is discussed in VDI 2058 Part 2. The Technical Regulation concerning the German Occupational Health and Safety Ordinance on Noise and Vibration (LärmVibrationsArbSchV (TRLV) "Noise" regulates the risk assessment and measures to be undertaken. The assessment of work noise in the neighbourhood is treated in the TA Noise. Possible impairments due to noises outside the audible frequency range (infrasound and ultrasound), which are also subject to other requirements for the measurement and assessment, are not considered.
