scope:
This standard describes the requirements with regard to the contents and format of such documents as are needed for the implementation of facility management during the life cycle of a building. The definition of FM-compliant planning does not fall in the scope of this standard.
This standard gives a clear guideline as to what information to include, in what format, in the documents to be drafted in the course of project handling for the various parties involved (building owners/clients, architects, specialist planners, executing companies, operators, etc.). Rather than introducing a new terminology relating to the drafting of documentation, the standard uses the existing, but mostly not further defined terms, particularly those already contained in the VOB or HOAI.
This standard does not create grounds for any new, separate obligations for the drafting of documentation. This standard is based on the assumption that the type and scope of FM-relevant documents to be drafted and delivered are agreed in a contract.
The standard VDI 6026 Part 1 does not only describe the information content and format of the documents for each life cycle phase, i. e. in a vertical approach, but also points out the interfaces among the various trades in a horizontal approach. From the point of view of FM, such analysis is not required. The requirements set by FM are independent of the trades and can be presented as universally valid.
This standard addresses technical building management (TBM) and floor plan management (FPM) which both are parts of FM. Commercial building management (CBM) und building infrastructure management (BIM) are not dealt with in this standard.
