Material Description.

PVC skin, manufactured in slush or cast-method, by powder or liquid, high heat or medium heat and UV stabilized, with no fabric backing, but may include a foam back-layer. The material shall be compounded to be flexible and free from tackiness. It shall be free from pinholes, pitting or dimpling. The material shall be capable of being routinely handled in the manufacturing process without damage. This specification covers material and some manufactured skin performance requirements.

Symbols.

The material abbreviation according to ISO 11469 is >PVC<.

Applicability.

Typical applications include the following: Instrument Panel, Door Trim Panels and Console Panels.

Remarks.

The specification is classified by temperature of part location usage for heat stabilization and functionality. If no type is specified, T1A is assumed.

• Type 1: Instrument Panel - High heat modified (defined as 120 °C), Passenger Air Bag (PAB) deployable. Type 1A is typically laser scored and Type 1B is typically cold knife scored.

• Type 2: Non-PAB deployable, all other panels - Medium impact modified (defined as 95 °C).
