scope:
This module applies to the following groups of structures assets:
• Bridges;
• Culverts;
• Tunnels;
• Retaining Walls;
• Coastal, Estuarine and River Defences (CERDs);
• Ancillary Structures.
This module applies when an Asset Engineer Structure decides that a regime of Additional examinations is required at a structure.
This module does not apply to One-off Additional Examinations.
NOTE 1: A one-off Additional examination may be suitable if it is decided that regular examination is not required. For example, if there is an outstanding part not examined (PNE) from an examination.
Purpose
This module sets out the process to manage Additional examinations.
Additional examinations are used to provide further information to enable effective management of specific elements or defects on a structure.
Failure to manage Additional examinations for structures could result in potential functional failures going unidentified by the asset management teams [Structures]. This may result in accidents and/or disruptions to the operation of the railway network.
