This business process defines the requirements for the planning, design and construction of undertrack crossings on and below Network Rail Infrastructure. It applies to those appointed to be responsible for the management of such undertrack crossings.
The company standards for the management of structures works are listed in NR/CS/CIV/044. NR/CS/CIV/044 makes reference to specifications for the management of structures works in relation to structure categories.
The applicable requirements of this business process should be applied, as a minimum, as a safe means of control for the construction of culverts and tunnels.Structures works for undertrack crossings with an internal diameter greater than 2.0m should also be managed in accordance with the specification applicable to structure category C, as defined in NR/CS/CIV/044.
This business process does not cover:
a) the requirements for the undertrack crossing to carry the service within it or the performance of the service within the undertrack crossing;
b) surface laid cables, including cables laid immediately below rail level.

Purpose
This business process defines the requirements for the planning, design and construction of undertrack crossings to maintain:
a) safe operation of trains; and / or
b) the safe movement and control of people to and from the trains.
It contains requirements supplementary to NR/CS/CIV/044. Compliance with this business process and the procedures and specifications referenced in it, will deliver compliance with the Railway Group Standards for the design and construction of undertrack crossings.
