This module applies to the following Category A, B, C, & F assets as defined in NR/L1/CIV/032.

Category G Assets unless identified as Operational Property assets in NR/L3/CIV/006.

This module does not cover apply to Reservoirs.

NOTE 1: see the Reservoir Act (1975).

This module applies to the following examination types:

• Detailed Examinations;

• Visual Examinations;

• Enhanced Examinations

• Underwater Examinations;

• Visual Examination by Line of Route.

This module applies to structures:

• owned, and/or managed by Network Rail;

• not owned by Network Rail and located adjacent to Network Rail infrastructure where the Route Asset Manager (RAM) in accordance with NR/L1/CIV/032 has not been able to assure that a sufficient regime of risk controls exists.

This module does not cover the following aspects of examination:

• Planning and undertaking examinations;

Purpose

This module sets out the process for implementing and managing a programme of structures examinations and the actions arising from Examinations.

Examinations identify changes to the asset, its use, and its environment to inform management decisions.

This module mitigates the risk of functional failures going undetected by the asset management teams [Structures]. Which may result in accidents and/or disruptions to the operation of the railway network.
