General
Fan-equipped heaters shall be tested in three modes: with full air flow, with the air inlet restricted and with the air outlet restricted. If a limit control is not supplied, any degree of restriction including full closure may be imposed at the discretion of the test agency for the second and third modes. If a limit control is supplied, restriction shall be imposed for the second and third modes until any further closure would cause the limit control to function.
Restriction shall be imposed systematically in accordance with the pattern shown in Figure 5 to the point of shutdown of main burner gas. A portion of the last piece of restriction shall be removed until the main burner gas is activated. Testing at reduced air flow, either inlet or outlet shall be conducted at that point.
