PREFACE
(This Preface is informative and is not part of the standarc.)
This publication represents a basic standard for safe operation, substan¬tial and durable construction, and acceptable performance of gas-fi red construc¬tion heaters. It is intended to promote safety in the utilization of gas.
Nothing in this standard is to be considered in any way as indicating a measure of quality beyond compliance with the provisions it contains. It is de¬signed to allow compliance of gas-fired construction heaters, the construction and performance of which may exceed the various provisions specified herein. In its preparation, full recognition has been given to possibilities of improve¬ment through ingenuity of design. As progress takes place, revisions may become necessary. When they are believed desirable, recommendations should be forwarded to the Chairman of the American National Standards Committee Z83, 8501 East Pleasant Valley Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44131.
Safe and satisfactory operation of a gas-fired construction heater depends to a great extent upon its proper use in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and local municipal codes. General criteria for the use of gas-fired construction heaters may be found in the applicable sections of two American National Standards; A10.10-1970, Safety Requirements for Temporary and Portable Space Heating Devices and Equipment used in the Construction Industry, and Z106.1-1972, Storage and Handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gases; as well as the Safety and Health Regulations for Construction promulgated by the Bureau of Labor Standards, Department of Labor.
