PREFACE
This publication represents a standard for safe operation, substantial and durable construction, and acceptable performance of gas-fired construction heaters. It is the result of years of experience in the manufacture, testing, installation, maintainance, inspection and research on construction heaters designed for the utilization of gas. There are risks of injury to persons inherent in some appliances that, if completely eliminated, would defeat the utility of the appliance. The provisions in this standard are intended to reduce such risks while retaining the normal operation of the appliance.
Nothing in this standard is to be considered in any way indicating a measure of quality beyond compliance with the provisions it contains. It is designed to allow compliance of gas-fired construction with the provisions it contain, It is designed to allow compliance of gas-fired construction heaters, the construction and performance of witch may exceed the various provisions specified herein. In its preparation, full recognition has been given to possibilities of improvement through ingenuity of design. As progress takes place, revisions may become necessary. When they are believed desirable, recommendations should be forwarded to the Chairman of the Accredited Standards Committee Z83, 8501 East Pleasant Valley Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44131.
Safe and satisfactory operation of a gas-fired construction heaters depends to a great extent upon its proper use in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and local municipal codes. General criteria for the use of gas-fired construction heaters may be found in the applicable sections of two American National Standards: ANSI A10.10, Safety Requirements for Temporary and Portable Space Heating Devices and Equipment used in the Construction Industry, and ANSI/NFPA 58, Storage and Handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gases; as well as the Construction Industry Standards promulgated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Department of Labor.
