This specification applies to all continuously welded rail track whether:

• designed and installed as such (including any subsequent rerailing) or

• converted from jointed track by either in-situ welding of the existing rails or rerailing, in both cases using existing sleepers and ballast.

This specification does not cover the maintenance and precautions required for crimp-ended steel sleepers, which (owing to their limited use) are the subject of local instructions.

PURPOSE

This specification defines the requirements for the design, installation and maintenance of continuous welded rail (CWR) track (for the purposes of this specification "design" means "configuration"). It also specifies the methods to be used when stressing CWR in plain line and switches and crossings.
