This Standard applies to station design, including the appearance of customer amenities and facilities, materials and finishes in the following areas:
• Station exteriors, entrances and exits,
• Ticket halls,
• Routeways,
• Customer facing lifts, escalators and staircases,
• Platforms and waiting areas,
• Staff accommodation which is visible to customers,
• Lighting,
• Cables and Cable Management Systems (CMS),
• Customer facing products.
This Standard applies to new works and alterations at all stations and parts of stations which are owned by LU or where LU is infrastructure manager or Station Facilities Operator. This includes those parts of stations which are used by other Train Operating Companies.
This Standard also applies to stations or parts of stations that are owned by other bodies (e.g. Network Rail or train operating companies) where LU is undertaking new works or alterations.
This Standard shall be read in conjunction with the LU Station Design Idiom which contains additional guidance about the requirements of this Standard.
Purpose
The purpose of this Standard is to set down the requirements for the appearance of LU stations in terms of appropriate design, materials and finish in accordance with the principles of the LU Station Design Idiom and to describe the requirements for customer amenities and facilities within stations.
For the purpose of this Standard, an amenity or facility is defined as a provision for customer assistance and convenience over and above the basic needs of accessing the train service, information and wayfinding, and ticket purchase and checking.
The Standard sets out the requirements for each area of the station to deliver the above principles as well as general principles which apply to all areas of stations.
