This standard applies to all TfL modes (LU, DLR, LO, Surface, Commercial Development etc).
This standard applies to TfL staff undertaking maintenance, minor works and project work on TfL assets, and to work undertaken by TfL staff on assets owned by others.
It applies to contractors and suppliers or any other person(s) planning and/or undertaking work within TfL owned, managed or occupied premises, mobile units and/or vehicles where mandated by the tenancy agreement or contract concerned.
It also applies to tenants where mandated by the contract concerned, including any contractors employed by them.
Note: For the purpose of this standard the term 'TfL staff' includes staff employed by TfL subsidiaries/departm
This standard applies to all works irrespective of which TfL department is commissioning the work.
It covers arrangements for management of asbestos and other non-asbestos Hazardous Materials including but not limited to:
a) Lead
b) Polychlorinated Biphenyls
c) Degraded chloroprene rubber
d) Anthrax
e) Mercury.
Exemptions - this standard does not apply to the following:
General management of dust, spillages, contaminants, biomedical hazards (e.g. hypodermic needles) and other hazardous waste except where the items are specifically identified as containing Hazardous Materials). For these items refer to PR0647 (ref #2), which is the general TfL procedure for Waste Management.
Control of dust generation resulting from work activities. This should be taken into account when applying the general Principles of Prevention to the development of the Safe System of Work.
Arrangements for management of fumes (whether from chemicals, battery gases, plant emissions or other sources).
Management of risks from contaminated water (including legionella, leptospirosis and gastric diseases) and pigeon guano - except where a specific risk has been identified of the water containing Hazardous Materials.
Storage and transportation of materials (including flammable materials, gases and chemicals).
Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to define the requirements for the management of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) and non-asbestos Hazardous Materials for TfL assets, such that all risks associated with these materials are effectively controlled in compliance with legislation.
Note: This standard supersedes the LU standard 'S1130 A5 Control of Asbestos in London Underground Premises'.
