scope:
This standard applies to all London Underground (LU) track, including plain line and junction work in open, sub-surface and tube sections and in sidings and depots.
This standard does not apply to the conductor rail system, the dimensions and Maximum permitted values and actions for which are covered in S1164.
Where it is mandatory that any of the supporting information in Section 6 of this standard is to be applied, the appropriate requirement is set out in Section 3.
The standard does not cover the requirements associated with the inspections and maintenance of the track system, which are the subject of standard S1158.
The standard does not cover the requirements of maintenance tolerances, which are subject of standard S1159.
The standard does not cover the requirements associated with Rail Defect management, which are the subject of standard S1178.
This standard must be followed by TfL Permanent Way Engineering and LU track maintenance teams with responsibility for the track, as well as Suppliers and Contractors when installing and renewing track.
Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to define the Conditions required and Maximum permitted values for track, and the actions to be taken if these are not achieved, in respect of completed works, i.e. new build and renewals.
The Conditions to be rectified and Maximum permitted values for track, and the actions to be taken if these are not achieved, in respect of Maintenance are covered in S1159.
