Substitution of smoke detection devices during temporary works

scope:
Smoke detection devices may be temporarily substituted by analogue heat detection devices in order that works may be carried out in areas fitted with smoke detection. By the substitution of smoke detection devices the fire protection in areas where work activities produce dust and smoke is maintained and helps to eliminate the possibility of false alarms. This excludes lifts, escalator and travolator machine rooms.
This only applies to 'point' detectors. It does not apply to smoke beam detection, aspirating smoke detection systems (e.g. Vesda, Hart or Strados) or escalator sprinkler protection systems (ESPS) using either heat sensing cables or optical systems.
This standard describes the procedure of how substitutions are approved and recorded.
