scope:

This standard describes the performance criteria and design-test procedures for the following as applied to sealed insulated underground connector systems rated at 600 volts for utility applications:

(1) Electrical stability under heat cycling in air

(2) Thermal stability of insulated system under load

(3) Electrical and mechanical conditions after simulated installation and use (integrity of seal and connector insulation)

A connector system consists of one or more connectors that provide for the connection of cables and for the insulation and sealing of cable junctions.

Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to give assurance to the user that connectors meeting the requirements will perform in a satisfactory manner, provided they are installed correctly.
