scope:

This standard applies to the operation of lifts subject to monitoring as defined by the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health and, analogously, to the operation of lifts covered by the Machinery Ordinance (9^th ProdSV).

The application of this standard assures specified normal operation of lifts while also ensuring safety of man and the environment.

It provides recommendations for owners regarding safe and economic operation of lifts; it gives due consideration to the effectiveness of legal and normative requirements, occupational safety and health, safety and environmental protection (emissions test) and specific performance requirements.

Furthermore, recommendations are given regarding the

• owner's responsibility (e.g. for exercising the legal duty to maintain safety),

• mitigation of the liability risk,

• the operating of lifts in accordance with the state of the art and

• third-party products, e.g. automatic fire alarm systems.
