This guideline lists the fire protection laws, ordinances and technical rules related to building services engineering, without making any claim to the validity or the comprehensive nature of the list.

In view of the target group of the VDI Guideline, the list is organised in orientation on DIN 276. Some rules are, therefore, cited more than once.

The VDI Guideline is intended to enable planners, builders, representatives of public authorities, contractors and operators to maintain an overview of the rules that must be taken into consideration in relation to fire protection during every phase of planning and construction, as well as the operation, of a building.

This compilation serves as a means of providing an initial orientation; no guaranty is provided that it represents a complete list of the rules and standards that must be adhered to or of their binding validity. The use of this VDI Guideline does not absolve the user from the obligation to attain information regarding the current stand.
