This Commercial Item Description (CID) covers the requirements for one type of Flight Line Tow Tractor (FLTT), hereafter referred to as tow tractor. The tow tractor is based on a commercial truck chassis, also known as a chassis cab, which is modified for use as a tow tractor in worldwide service. These chassis are generally sold to final-stage manufacturers (hereafter referred to as tow tractor manufacturers) who complete the vehicle. The tow tractor is capable of towing trailers up to 40,000 pounds, and military aircraft up to 70,000 pounds on grades up to two and one half percent.
