This guideline covers filtering separators (surface filters) for the collection of solid particles from gas streams in emission control, process gas cleaning and product separation applications.

Filter systems for the cleanup of intake and exhaust air of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (depth filters) are covered by VDI 3677 Part 2.

For information on the design, construction and operation of hot gas filters operating at temperatures of up to 1000 °C, reference is made to VDI 3677 Part 3.
