scope:
This standard covers compact carbon steel gate valves in sizes 4 inches and smaller corresponding to nominal pipe sizes (NPS) in ANSI* B36.10. Designs for the following valves are included:
A Class 800 valve with threaded or socket-welding ends; an inside screw with rising stem (ISRS) and threaded packing gland or an outside screw and yoke (OS&Y) with rising stem and bolted packing gland; and a bolted, union, or welded bonnet.
Classes 150, 300, and 600 flanged-end OS&Y valves with rising stem, bolted packing gland, and bolted bonnet. Ratings shall correspond to those in ANSI Bl6.5.
Typical diagrams for an inside screw gate valve and an OS&Y gate valve are presented in Figure 1 and Figure 2, respectively. The valve sketches are illustrative of some of the requirements of this standard but also show some variations of commercial design on which the purchaser may exercise a choice. Although these sketches are based upon designs now available, they are not to be construed as sponsoring such designs in whole or in part nor as discriminating against others offered that conform to the general requirements herein.
