This standard covers design criteria, face-to-face dimensions, pressure-temperature ratings, and inspection and test requirements for cast iron, ductile iron, bronze, carbon steel, and alloy steel butterfly valves that provide tight shutoff in closed position and are suitable for flow regulation.

Valve sizes covered are NPS 11/2 through 24, corresponding to nominal pipe sizes in ANSI B36.10 (see Table 1).

Valve configurations are limited to lug-type and wafer-type with facing that will permit installation between ANSI B16 flanges as referenced in 1.2 (see Figure 1).

The bolting options for lug-type and wafer-type valves are illustrated in figure 1.
